Xiaobo Zhu is a Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. He received his PhD in condensed matter physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOP-China) in Beijing. Between 2003 and 2008, he worked at IOP-China as an intern, assistant professor, and associate professor. In 2008, he joined NTT Basic Research Laboratories as a Research Associate and later as a Senior Research Associate. In 2013, he became a special assigned professor at IOP-China. He joined the University of Science and Technology of China as a professor in 2016.
His research focuses on the development of scalable superconducting quantum processors and hybrid superconducting quantum systems. His team has achieved several milestones in quantum computing, including the first demonstration of coherent coupling between a superconducting qubit and a nitrogen-vacancy-center ensemble. In collaboration with researchers at Zhejiang University, they designed, fabricated, and characterized a ten-qubit Xmon/Transmon quantum processor with strong coherence properties and developed a Josephson parametric amplifier with approximately 300 MHz bandwidth. Zhu has contributed to major advances such as the Zuchongzhi series of quantum processors and experiments demonstrating quantum computational advantage, quantum error correction, and topological phases on superconducting platforms.
