Dr Xin Ma is an Associate Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Department of Management at Monash University, Australia. Prior to joining Monash in July 2018, he served as Lecturer in Engineering Management (Education & Research) at the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, University of Exeter, United Kingdom, from February 2017 to January 2018. He earned his PhD in Operations Management in 2017 and a Master's degree in Industrial Logistics Systems in 2013, both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Ma's research focuses on platform operations and behavioral operations, data-driven prescriptive models, healthcare management, sustainable operations management, and disruption risk management. His peer-reviewed publications appear in flagship journals such as Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Decision Sciences Journal, European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Transportation Research Part E. Key publications include "The effects of selling formats and upstream competition on product pricing and quality design" (Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, 2024), "A data-driven distributionally robust optimization approach for the core acquisition problem" (European Journal of Operational Research, 2024), "Blockchain-based messaging and information sharing systems for air cargo supply chains" (IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, 2024), and "Performance analysis of a blockchain-based messaging system implementation for air cargo supply chains" (International Journal of Production Research, 2025). He has received the 2021 Dean's Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher at Monash Business School, the 2018 Most Significant Contribution Award and Best Paper Award from Decision Sciences Journal, and the Review Management Award in 2022. Ma has secured two industry-led collaborative research grants, including a Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) Grant. He serves as Department Editor for IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Associate Editor for Decision Sciences Journal, and on the Editorial Review Board of Transportation Research Part E. He co-chaired the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management Operations, Supply Chain, and Services Management Symposium in 2021 and 2022, and was track chair for the 1st Australian Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals including good health and well-being, affordable and clean energy, responsible consumption and production, and climate action.
