About Xinran

Professor Xinran Wang received his B.S. degree in physics from Nanjing University in 2004 and his Ph.D. degree in physics from Stanford University in 2010. Between 2010 and 2011, he conducted postdoctoral research in the group of Professor Hongjie Dai at Stanford University and subsequently in the group of Professor John Rogers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He joined Nanjing University as a professor in the School of Electronic Science and Engineering in 2011.

Professor Wang’s research focuses on the synthesis, properties, and device applications of low-dimensional materials, including two-dimensional semiconductors, as well as flexible electronics. He has authored more than 15 papers in Science, Nature, and Nature series journals, with total citations exceeding 12,000 and an h-index of 32 according to Google Scholar. He is the recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2013), the Chang Jiang Scholar award (2014), the National Youth Medal (2016), and the IEEE Nanotechnology Council Technical Achievement Award (2024) for contributions to the growth of 2D semiconductors and their electronic device applications. Professor Wang serves as associate editor of npj 2D Materials and Applications and as an editorial board member of Scientific Reports and Journal of Semiconductors. In 2026, he co-authored a paper published in Science on the kinetic acceleration of MoS₂ growth by oxy-metal-organic chemical vapour deposition.
