Professor Xuedong Yang serves as Professor and Director of the Department of Political Science at Tsinghua University. He previously held the position of director of the Central Documents Translation Center of the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau of the CCP Central Committee and senior research fellow. Professor Yang earned his PhD degree from Peking University with a major in comparative politics. He has held visiting fellow positions at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University from 2001 to 2002, the Public Affairs Center in Bangalore in 2009, Tubingen University in Germany in 2010, and Vienna University in 2013.
His research interests encompass local politics and governance in China, globalization and political development, and political discourse analysis. He is conducting a program focused on political development indices and their comparison. Professor Yang has authored or co-authored books including Globalization Theories published in 2002 by Social Sciences Documentary Press, Risk Society and Reconstructing Order published in 2006 by Social Sciences Documentary Press, Bring the Local Back in edited in 2006 by Social Sciences Documentary Press, Proactive Local Politics in China edited in 2013 by Central Compilation and Translation Press, The Logic of Local Governance published in 2018 by Social Sciences Documentary Press, and The Logic of State Governance published in 2018 by Social Sciences Documentary Press. He has also produced numerous articles on Chinese politics and governance, political discourse, and globalization.
