Xuexia Wang is a Professor of Biostatistics at Florida International University in the Department of Biostatistics, Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work, where she joined in 2022. She holds two Ph.D. degrees, one from Michigan Technological University and another from Capital University of Economics and Business, as well as a B.S. from Shandong Normal University. Her career includes positions as Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of North Texas (2016–2022), Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Public Health (2011–2016), Assistant Research Professor at City of Hope National Medical Center for one year, and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine for one and a half years.
Dr. Wang specializes in developing statistical methods and computational tools for genetic discovery and risk prediction, with a focus on identifying genetic factors for cancer and treatment-related adverse outcomes, such as anthracycline-related cardiomyopathy. Her research also addresses complex diseases like autism, schizophrenia, and glaucoma, particularly in admixed populations. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, cited approximately 3,000 times, including "Gene-based Association Tests Using GWAS Summary Statistics and Incorporating eQTL" (Scientific Reports, 2022), "TS: a powerful truncated test to detect novel disease associated genes using publicly available GWAS summary data" (BMC Bioinformatics, 2020), "Association of GSTM1 null variant with anthracycline-related cardiomyopathy after childhood cancer—A Children's Oncology Group ALTE03N1 report" (Cancer, 2020), "CELF4 variant and Anthracycline-related Cardiomyopathy – A COG Study (ALTE03N1)" (Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2016), and "Hyaluronidase synthase 3 (HAS3) variant and Anthracycline-related Cardiomyopathy – A report from the Children’s Oncology Group" (Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2014). Dr. Wang has obtained extramural funding totaling $8 million across her career and has been affiliated with $938,017 in funded research as PI, Co-PI, or subcontract PI. She has taught numerous graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in statistics, statistical genetics, and computational statistics, and advised over 20 graduate and undergraduate students.
