About Yahya

Prof. Yahya Zweiri is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Khalifa University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College London in 2003, following an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution in 1998 and a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Jordan University in 1990. He previously served as a Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at King’s College London. His career includes roles as Research and Development Director at the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau and Director of Research & Enterprise at Kingston University. He has also held positions as Senior Director of the Research & Innovation Center for Graphene and 2D Materials and Director of the Advanced Research and Innovation Center at Khalifa University.

Prof. Zweiri’s research centers on robotic systems for extreme conditions, with emphasis on applied artificial intelligence and neuromorphic vision systems for unmanned aerial vehicles. He has led numerous projects totaling approximately US$10 million focused on in-flight learning, navigation in GPS-denied environments, and aerospace precision manufacturing. He has published over 200 refereed research papers, holds sixteen patents, and founded two spin-off companies. As an educator, he has mentored more than 60 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students along with research staff. He serves as Guest Editor of the Sensors Journal and Associate Editor for the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation and the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. He is an IEEE Member and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
