Great Professor!
Dr. Yanan Liu is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Newcastle, Australia, where she joined in March 2024. She earned her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2021, with her thesis receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding PhD Theses. Liu previously obtained a Master of Control Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2017 and a Bachelor of Measuring and Control Technology Instrument from Anhui University in 2014. Her research specializations encompass feedback control, learning control, and quantum control, with fields of research comprising control engineering (70%) and quantum technologies (30%). Key focuses include time-delayed feedback control design for quantum optical systems, quantum measurement, control, and noise mitigation. Liu is committed to interdisciplinary research bridging control engineering and quantum physics.
Prior roles include Research Fellow at the Centre for Quantum Dynamics (CQD), Griffith University (June 2022 to February 2024), Postdoctoral Scholar at the Quantum Machines Unit, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), Japan (March 2021 to May 2022), and Research Associate at UNSW Canberra (December 2020 to February 2021). She holds the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2024–2025) at the Department of Automatic Control and Complex Systems, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, funded at $53,941, to develop fault-tolerant control strategies for quantum optical systems toward high-squeezed light generation under Professor Steven Ding's supervision. Other honors encompass PhD Tuition Fee Scholarship and University College PG Top-up Scholarship from UNSW (2017–2021) and National Scholarship of Graduate Students from USTC (2016). Liu has published extensively in leading journals, including 'Fault-Tolerant Coherent H∞ Control for Linear Quantum Systems' (IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2022, co-authors: Dong D, Petersen IR, Gao Q, Ding SX, Yokoyama S, Yonezawa H), 'A quantum ticking self-oscillator using delayed feedback' (New Journal of Physics, 2023, co-authors: Munro WJ, Twamley J), 'Fault-tolerant H∞ control for optical parametric oscillators with pumping fluctuations' (Automatica, 2022), 'Two-step feedback preparation of entanglement for qubit systems with time delay' (Automatica, 2021), and 'Lyapunov-Based Feedback Preparation of GHZ Entanglement of N-Qubit Systems' (IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, 2017). She contributes to teaching electrical engineering courses and serves as Deputy Program Convenor for undergraduate programs.
