Yap Yee Aun, also known as Justin Yap Yee Aun, is a Senior Lecturer (Practice) in the Department of Psychology within the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia. He serves as the Clinical Training Director, coordinating the Counselling Practicum and Counselling Internship programs while supervising counselling students during their clinical practice. Yap holds a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of South Australia and a Master of Counselling from HELP University, completed between 2006 and 2009. Registered as a Counsellor (KB05802, PA05196), Psychologist, and Clinical Supervisor, he brings over 15 years of experience in the mental health industry to his role. He joined the Department of Psychology as a Lecturer (Practice) in September 2019 and is heavily involved in the Master of Professional Counselling program, coordinating the internship module to provide students with real-world counselling experience in the community.
Throughout his career, Yap has undertaken diverse roles including private counsellor, counselling supervisor, corporate trainer, talent assessor, and head of product development in a social enterprise. He is a regular speaker on topics such as stress management, human personality, communication, and career decision making, and has been featured in MyStarjobs and Reader's Digest. At Monash University Malaysia, he acts as chief examiner and unit coordinator for several key courses, including EDF5544 Group Counselling Skills and Psychotherapy, EDF5541 Personnel and Career Development Counselling, EDF5554 Counselling Internship, PSY3034 Psychological Science in Practice, and PSY3120 Introduction to Counselling. Additionally, he has contributed to university events such as the 2022 Postgraduate Week virtual webinar on the Master of Professional Counselling alongside Associate Professor Tam Cai Lian. Yap's work focuses on training the next generation of counsellors to enhance mental health support accessibility.
