Yinjie Shen is an Associate Professor of Finance in the Monte Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University. He serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Finance and Economics. In March 2022, the Cleveland State University Board of Trustees granted him tenure and promotion to Associate Professor. Shen received the 2021-2022 Faculty Scholarship Initiative (FSI) Award to support his research endeavors. A paper he co-authored was selected as the Best Public Interest paper at the American Accounting Association Meeting of the Regions. He also acts as the Finance Internship Coordinator, facilitating student internships and professional development within the department.
Dr. Shen's research spans critical areas in finance, including hedge fund activism, economic policy uncertainty, corporate social responsibility, creditor control rights and tax avoidance, whistleblowing effects on financial misstatements, green technology innovation, and regional economic disparities. His publications appear in leading journals such as Journal of Financial Stability, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Applied Economics, Sustainability, and Journal of Financial Markets. Key works include "Economic policy uncertainty and banks' loan pricing" (2019, cited extensively), "Access to Digital Financial Services and Green Technology Innovation" (2021), "Inclusive Green Growth and Regional Disparities: A Study Based on the Yangtze River Economic Belt" (2021), "Mergers and acquisitions with pledging shareholders" (2023), "Do Sell-Side Analysts Play a Role in Hedge Fund Activism Spillover Effects?" (2022), "Do creditor control rights impact corporate tax avoidance?" (2024), "The Peer Deterrent Effect of Whistleblowing on Financial Misstatement" (2024), "Geographic location and corporate social responsibility" (2024), and "An ETF-based measure of stock price fragility" (2025). Shen has presented on hedge fund activism at the Cornerstone Speaker Series in March 2023 and advised undergraduate research projects, such as "Do Hedge Fund Activists Prefer Local Firms?" in 2019.
