Yoly Gonzalez-Stucker, DDS, MS, MPH, serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She holds the positions of Program Director for the TMD & Orofacial Pain Certificate program, Associate Director, and Predoctoral Director of TMD & Orofacial Pain. Her academic career at the University at Buffalo spans research activity from 1996 to 2026, during which she has contributed significantly to clinical education and research in oral diagnostic sciences.
Dr. Gonzalez-Stucker's research specializations focus on Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Orofacial Pain conditions, particularly examiner training, reliability, assessment, and diagnosis. She serves as a co-investigator in multicenter studies on diagnostic systems for TMD, longitudinal studies evaluating risk factors for TMD and Orofacial Pain development, biomechanical characteristics of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and treatment modalities for TMD management. She has produced 48 articles, 5 review articles, and 3 chapters. Key publications include "Myofascial pain with referral: Role of nociceptive drive and central pain mechanisms" (Journal of Pain, 2026), "Nocturnal Autonomic Nervous System Dynamics and Chronic Painful Temporomandibular Disorders" (JDR Clinical and Translational Research, 2026), "Bringing mindfulness-based techniques into orofacial pain patient care" (Journal of Dental Education, 2025), "The challenge of ecological validity in temporomandibular disorders research" (Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2025), and "Mechanics- and Behavior-Related Temporomandibular Joint Differences" (Journal of Dental Research, 2024). As principal investigator, she leads the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research-funded grant "Predictive Markers for Longitudinal TMJ Integrity" (2023-2026) and has held PI or co-investigator roles on additional projects addressing TMD progression and pain management.
