Yuliang Xiu is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering at Westlake University, where he leads the Endless AI Lab as founding principal investigator. He joined the university in 2025 after completing his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in the Perceiving Systems department, advised by Michael J. Black and Dimitrios Tzionas. During his doctoral studies, he was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow as part of the CLIPE project. He briefly pursued Ph.D. studies at the University of Southern California advised by Hao Li. Xiu earned his M.Sc. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2019, where he worked in the Machine Vision and Intelligence Group advised by Cewu Lu, and his B.Eng. degree in Digital Media Technology from Shandong University in 2016, collaborating closely with Lu Wang. His research centers on democratizing human-centric digitization through advances in computer vision, computer graphics, and machine learning, with particular emphasis on 3D human reconstruction, animatable digital avatars, and related techniques such as those presented in papers including ECON (CVPR 2023 Highlight), ICON (CVPR 2022), TADA and TeCH (3DV 2024, most influential papers), ETCH (ICCV 2025 Highlight), and PuzzleAvatar (SIGGRAPH Asia 2024). He has received multiple honors, including the 2026 Zhejiang Provincial Talent Program Young Talents award, the 2026 Huawei AI Young Scholars Fund, the 2026 CSIG Distinguished Young Scholar award, the 2025 CSIG Rising Star Award, and earlier recognitions such as the China Excellent Open-Source Project Award for AlphaPose and the SIGGRAPH Real-Time Live Best in Show Award for MonoPort. Xiu contributes to the academic community as an area chair for conferences including ICLR 2026, CVPR 2026, ICCV 2025, 3DV 2025, and WACV 2025, as well as a reviewer for venues such as SIGGRAPH, CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, T-PAMI, and IJCV. He has delivered invited talks at institutions including ETH Zurich, UCLA, Peking University, and others, and his work has been featured in media outlets such as The New York Times.
