About Yunhua

Yunhua Xu is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Tianjin University, where he has served since July 2015. He earned a B.S. in Applied Physics from Zhengzhou University in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Material Physics and Chemistry from South China University of Technology in 2008. Prior to his current position, Xu held roles including Visiting Scholar, Research Associate, and Assistant Research Scientist at the University of Maryland-College Park from 2009 to 2015, Research Associate at Iowa State University in 2014, and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara from 2006 to 2009.

His research focuses on energy storage and conversion, with specializations in rechargeable batteries including lithium-ion, sodium-ion, lithium-sulfur, and solid-state batteries; supercapacitors; nanomaterials for energy applications; organic materials for energy storage; and fundamental battery electrochemistry. Xu has received numerous honors, including the 1000Plan Program for Young Talents in 2015 and the National Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2010. He leads research teams whose work has appeared in high-impact journals such as Nature, with recent contributions advancing organic cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
