Rate My Professor Yunqi Lei

Professor Yunqi Lei, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Xiamen University in the field of Computer Science, dedicated over 30 years to the institution until his retirement in 2023. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1982, Master of Engineering from the Naval University of Engineering in 1984, and Doctor of Philosophy from the National University of Defense Technology in 1988. Prior to his long tenure at Xiamen University, he served in the Navy and Army, worked as a lecturer in the Department of Electronics and Communications at Singapore Polytechnic, and held visiting scholar positions at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University. During his time as Deputy Director and Director of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, he played a pivotal role, alongside colleagues like Professor Li Cuihua, in establishing computer science as a key discipline at Xiamen University.

Professor Lei's research specialized in machine learning, computer vision, intelligent systems, computational theory, computer networks, and software. As a key member of the Computer Vision and Image Processing research team, he contributed to advancements in these areas. His teaching approach, characterized by rigor, practicality, seriousness, responsibility, integrity, and principles, earned high praise and produced graduates who have excelled across various industries and regions worldwide. Key publications include "Face recognition by decision fusion of two-dimensional linear discriminant methods" (2016), "SDM3d: shape decomposition of multiple geometric priors" (2021), "Crowd estimation using key-point matching with support vector regression" (2021), "DC-GNet: Deep Mesh Relation Capturing Graph Network for 3D Segmentation" (2021), and "A Deep Learning Approach to Mesh Segmentation" (2023). He delivered public lectures, such as "My 40 Years of University Life" at the Haiyun Famous Teacher Forum in 2019.
