About Yushu

Dr. Elizabeth Yushu Zhu is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the UQ Business School, University of Queensland. She obtained her PhD from the Australian National University in 2010. Her research focuses on empirical finance topics, including corporate finance and governance, entrepreneurial finance such as crowdfunding, and banking. Zhu serves on the editorial board of the Australian Journal of Management. Her research has received several best paper awards from the British Accounting Review and the Australian Journal of Management, both A* or A-rated journals. She has supervised PhD students whose work has resulted in publications in top journals, university medals, and AFAANZ Highly Commended PhD awards.

Zhu has an extensive publication record in leading finance journals. Key works include 'Deviation from target capital structure, cost of equity and speed of adjustment' (Journal of Corporate Finance, 2016, with Zhou, Tan, Faff), cited over 200 times; 'Endogeneity in accounting and finance research: natural experiments as a state-of-the-art solution' (Abacus, 2015, with Gippel, Smith); 'Research in finance: a review of influential publications and a research agenda' (Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, 2017, with Linnenluecke et al.); 'CEO decision horizon and corporate R&D investments: an explanation based on managerial myopia and risk aversion' (Accounting and Finance, 2021, with Li et al.); 'Chair–CEO trust and firm performance' (Australian Journal of Management, 2021, with Zheng); 'Tax and leverage: evidence from China' (China Economic Review, 2020, with Deng et al.); and recent publications such as 'Algorithmic trading and block ownership initiation: an information perspective' (The British Accounting Review, 2023, with Zheng) and 'Social trust and entrepreneurship: insights from China's Social Credit System' (Finance Research Letters, 2024, with Fang et al.). Her contributions advance understanding of capital structure, managerial decision-making, and financial policies, particularly in Asia-Pacific contexts.
