Great Professor!
Dr. Zhaohui Wang serves as Honorary Senior Lecturer in the School of Science within the College of Engineering, Science and Environment at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He also holds the position of Conjoint Senior Research Fellow at the International Centre for Balanced Land Use at the same university. Wang obtained his PhD in Physical Chemistry in 2009 from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, specifically the Doctor of Natural Science in Chemistry from the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the environmental chemistry of redox-active elements, including Fe, Cl, and Cr cycles in natural and engineered systems. Key areas of interest encompass advanced oxidation processes, chemical intermediates, environmental catalysis, geochemistry, photochemistry, and radical chemistry. Previously, he was Senior Lecturer in the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Research Associate at Southern Cross GeoScience, Southern Cross University, Australia, and Associate Professor at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Donghua University, China. Additionally, he is Professor at the School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences, East China Normal University.
Wang has published over 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and four book chapters. Notable book chapters include 'Sonochemical Based Processes for Treatment of Water and Wastewater: Future Challenges' (2024), 'Cavitation-Based Processes for Water and Wastewater Treatment' (2023), 'Sensitization of Titania Semiconductor: A Promising Strategy to Utilize Visible Light' (2013), 'Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Contaminants on Mineral Surface' (2011), and 'Principles and Guidelines of Sampling, Extraction, and Instrumental Analysis Techniques for Measurements of Organic Pollutants in Environmental Matrices' (2011). Selected journal articles feature 'Photoreduction of Fe(III) mediated by structurally different plant-related organic compounds: An EPR study' (2026), 'Dimethyl sulfoxide as a qualitative EPR indicator of sulfate radical in advanced oxidation processes' (2026), 'Resolving the kinetic and intrinsic constraints of heat-activated peroxydisulfate oxidation of iopromide in aqueous solution' (2020, Journal of Hazardous Materials), '3D mesoporous alpha-Co(OH)2 nanosheets electrodeposited on nickel foam: A new generation of macroscopic cobalt-based hybrid for peroxymonosulfate activation' (2020, Chemical Engineering Journal), and 'Accelerated oxidation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol in Cu(II)/H2O2/Cl- system: A unique "halotolerant" Fenton-like process?' (2019, Environment International). Since 2015, he has been Associate Editor for RSC Advances, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry. His contributions advance understanding of pollutant degradation, redox transformations, and water treatment technologies.
