Zicong Zhang is a Program-Specific Researcher in the Bourque Group at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (ASHBi), Kyoto University. He joined the institution on April 1, 2021, and his research field is Evolutionary Biology. His work focuses on comparative genomics and comparative epigenomics.
Zhang has contributed to research on cis-regulatory elements and gene regulation in the human genome. He served as first author on a 2026 study developing a new method for studying these elements at scale, conducted in collaboration with Associate Professor Fumitaka Inoue. Additional involvement includes analyses of transcriptional regulatory elements published in Nature in 2025. Prior to his current role, he was affiliated with Tokyo Institute of Technology from January to March 2021. Zhang maintains a Google Scholar profile documenting citations in his areas of expertise.
