Position Overview
This position serves as the Assistant Athletics Director, Development of the Cal Athletics Fund and works closely with the Development Leadership Team to support the implementation of the fundraising strategies and goals for the department. The Cal Athletics Fund, which is the sole fundraising group for intercollegiate athletics, is comprised of teams of individuals who focus on leadership gifts, annual giving, donor engagement, and alumni relations. reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director, Development (Deputy Chief Development Officer). This position is responsible for leadership/major giving and will directly supervise a team of Leadership Giving Officers. This position will support the development of staff and ensuring predetermined fundraising goals are met each year. The Assistant Athletics Director, Development will maintain a portfolio of donor prospects that includes influential, complex, or highly-rated donors and will be expected to surpass individual fundraising goals This position will be integral to the leadership of the team and requires a high-level of leadership and management ability in alignment with the athletics department's fundraising goals.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a lead development professional in leadership/major gifts, which will include, donors capable of making very significant contributions to the department.
- Works with the Development Leadership Team to conceive, create, develop, implement, evaluate and oversee fundraising programs and strategies to meet predetermined goals and objectives, and ensures that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Develops, creates, writes, implements, and/or evaluates individualized plans and/or strategies for cultivation and solicitation of major gifts.
- Manage a portfolio of 100 - 125 major gift donor prospects that include influential, complex or highest-rated donors, typically with the capacity to give $100,000 or more. Make at least 10 - 15 substantive contacts per month (e.g., significant moves that advance a relationship). Qualify major gift prospects and solicit gifts directly. Ensure that predetermined fundraising goals are met. Presents formal fundraising proposals to major donors and prospects or prepares senior management to present proposals. Could include traveling with and to visit donors.
- Designs and implements highly specialized program activities. Serves as a resource for leadership giving, interacting with prospects, donors, staff and outside professionals to provide information, advice and counsel.
- Responsible for leadership giving through directing and providing leadership to achieve the goals of the unit.
- Manages and oversees a team of leadership giving officers, ensuring predetermined fundraising goals are met. Establishes clear expectations and performance standards while supporting the fostering of a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
