1 (one) Research Fellowship (BI) for a Master enrolled in a non-degree course

1. Scientific Area: Molecular and Cellular Biology, Bioinformatics
2. Admission requirements: Master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics, or a related field. Experience analyzing RNA sequencing data, including preprocessing, quality control, integration, and cell annotation. Programming skills in Python, R, and Bash for building reproducible sequencing data processing pipelines.
3. Additional optional skills and qualifications: Knowledge of methodologies for inferring cell differentiation pathways from transcriptomic data. Familiarity with the detection and quantification of microRNAs and their regulatory targets. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
4. Contracting requirements: Presentation of the academic qualifications and/or diplomas, if applicable. Enrollment in a non-degree course developed in association or cooperation between a High Education Institution and one or multiple research units.
5. Work plan: Analysis and integration of RNA-seq and miRNA-seq data from grapevines. Development of analytical pipelines for annotation and the detection of differential expression.
6. Legislation framework: This call is governed by the Research Fellowship Holder Statute, approved by Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended; by the FCT Regulation for Research Studentships and Fellowships, as currently in force, amended and republished by the Notice (Extract) No. 412/2026/2 (available at: https://diariodarepublica.pt/dr/detalhe/aviso-extrato/412-2026-996320857 and https://www.fct.pt/financiamento/programas-de-financiamento/bolsas/); and by the FCiências.ID Regulation for Research Fellowships, approved on 12 May 2020 (available at Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação Científica da FCiências.ID).
7. Place of work: The work will be developed at the BioISI - Biosystems and Integrative Sciences Institute, Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa under the scientific supervision of Professor Andreia Figueiredo.
8. Fellowship duration: This position is initially opened for 3 months and due to start in October 2026.
9. Monthly allowance: The fellowship amounts to 1359,64 €, according to table values of the FCiências.ID Fellowship Regulation. The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme, if not covered by any other social protection scheme, pursuant to Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
10. Evaluation and selection process: Candidates will be assessed by a) Academic training (20%); b) Experience in scientific fields described in paragraph 2 and 3 (50%); c) Publications and Communications in the area (mentioned in the CV) (20%); d) Motivation letter (10%). The jury may choose to conduct an interview with the top 3 (three) classified in total of criteria a) to d), aimed at obtaining clarifications, additional information and/or explanation of elements presented. In this case, the sum of the evaluations obtained in evaluation criteria a) to d) will correspond to 70% of the final classification and the interview to 30%. Applicants whose application is scored with a final classification of less than 80 points are not eligible for granting a fellowship.

16. Time limits for the appeal procedure: In case of negative decision, the candidates have 10 business days, after the date of announcement of the results of the candidates evaluation, to pronounce their disagreement in accordance with the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. Appeals against the final decision may be submitted to the Administration Board of FCiências.ID (fciencias.id@fciencias-id.pt) within 15 business days after the notification date.

Note 1: The documents that prove the entitlement of the academic qualifications and diplomas can be dismissed during the application period and replaced by a declaration on their honour from the applicant (Minuta PT, Minute EN). Their delivery is mandatory for the fellowship contractualization.
