Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position
Responsibilities of the position are to teach core Therapeutic Recreation courses for undergraduate students. This includes managing the class in face to face classroom and local Therapeutic Recreation settings as well as in the online environment. Instructors will need to have understanding of local resources for engaging students in the community for practicum component.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department provides experiences for students to become leaders in TR and related professions. The TR Department is specifically designed for students who wish to enter the profession of TR as well as to prepare for graduate study in related allied health and human service fields. Graduates meet the requirements to apply for certification by the National Council for TR Certification and licensure by the state of North Carolina.

Minimum Experience/Education
Applicants must have a current recreation therapy license in the state of North Carolina (see NC Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure.) Other requirements include a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related discipline and teaching experience at the college level.

Responsibilities of the position are to teach core Therapeutic Recreation courses for undergraduate students. This includes managing the class in face to face classroom and Therapeutic Recreation settings. Instructors will need to have understanding of local resources for engaging students in the community for practicum component. Instructor must also ensure syllabus, learning outcomes, learning activities and assessments meet program and university standards. Instructor may be asked to collaborate with Therapeutic Recreation Department faculty in some areas such as program assessment.
