"2026 Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) through Beijing Normal University"

I. Program Overview

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding overseas young scholars (including non-Chinese foreign talents) in natural sciences, engineering technology, and other fields who have achieved excellent results to return (or come) to China for work. Scholars can independently choose research directions to conduct innovative research, promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technical personnel, cultivate a group of outstanding academic backbones expected to enter the forefront of world science and technology, and contribute to building a strong country in science and technology.

II. Application Requirements

Final requirements shall be subject to the “2026 National Natural Science Foundation of China Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) Application Guidelines”.

1. Applicants for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) should meet the following conditions:

(1) Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, have good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era.

(2) Born on or after January 1, 1986.

(3) Hold a doctoral degree.

(4) Research directions are mainly in natural sciences, engineering technology, etc.

(5) Generally, applicants should have obtained formal teaching or research positions in overseas universities, research institutions, or corporate R&D institutions for 36 consecutive months or more after obtaining their doctoral degrees and before April 15, 2026. For those who have obtained doctoral degrees overseas with particularly outstanding achievements may have their work experience requirements appropriately relaxed (not applicable to those who obtained overseas doctoral degrees through Sino-foreign joint training programs).

For applicants who held salaried positions in mainland China during their overseas work period, such salaried work experience in mainland China will not be counted as overseas work experience.

(6) Have achieved research or technical results recognized by peer experts, and possess the development potential to become academic leaders or outstanding talents in the field.

(7) Applicants should not have returned (or come) to work in China full-time, or should have returned (or come) to work in China after January 1, 2025. After receiving the funding notification, applicants must resign from overseas positions and work full-time in China for no less than 3 years.

2. Eligibility Limitations

We shall implement relevant requirements for coordinating and connecting national science and technology talent programs. Applicants can only undertake one national science and technology talent program at the same level and cannot apply for programs at a lower level.

III. Support Policies

1. Beijing Campus

(1) Eligible for appointment to the Jingshi Distinguished Top-notch Scholar position with direct senior professional title appointment (full or associate professor, subject to passing the university’s talent recruitment assessment procedure).

(2) Provide competitive salary and allowances.

(3) National research funding support and matching research funding support.

(4) National one-time subsidy and matching living allowance.

(5) Provide postdoctoral team and doctoral student enrollment quotas.

(6) Provide transitional housing according to university policy.

(7) Top-tier pre-school and full-stage compulsory education resources nationwide.

2. Zhuhai Campus

(1) Eligible for appointment to the Top-notch Talent position with direct full professor appointment (subject to passing the university’s talent recruitment assessment procedure)

(2) Provide competitive salary and allowances in the Greater Bay Area.

(3) National research funding support and university research startup funds.

(4) National one-time subsidy and stacked matching subsidies from Guangdong Province and Zhuhai City.

(5) Provide attractive university housing allowance.

(6) Provide graduate student enrollment quotas according to university policy.

(7) Provide transitional housing or rental subsidies, with eligibility to apply for purchasing university co-owned property.

(8) Top-tier pre-school and full-stage compulsory education resources nationwide.
