The Temporary Faculty Instructor will teach a variety of courses in the First Year Writing program. The incumbent will provide in-person, face-to-face, on-campus teaching and instructional learning. Classes are primarily scheduled during the daytime. Potential courses may include:
- WRT 120 | Effective Writing 1
- WRT 200 | Critical Writing and Research
- WRT 123 | Effective Writing with Supplemental Writing Workshop
The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department's students. The incumbent will collaborate with other department faculty and staff to ensure student success.
The initial appointment will be for one semester with the possibility of renewal in the Spring 2027 semester based on department needs. If the successful candidate is renewed, online or hybrid teaching is a possibility upon completion of the university's online faculty development program.
A typical semester workload involves teaching one 3-credit course to three 3-credit courses per semester.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach courses in the First-Year Writing program. Additional courses within area(s) of specialization may be assigned based on departmental needs.
- Provide students with support during office hours - approximately 1.25 hours for each 3-credit course).
- Communicate via email with students as appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in English Studies, Composition/Rhetoric, or a closely related field/discipline
- Experience teaching First-Year Writing/Composition courses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D in Rhetoric/Composition; and/or
- Experience teaching developmental writing courses: and/or
- Experience with anti-racist pedagogy; and/or
- Experience teaching students of diverse & multicultural backgrounds to include neurodiversity; and/or
- Research focus on composition theory and/or pedagogy, and/or professional development in this area
- Research and/or professional development focusing on composition theory and/or pedagogy
