The School of Music offers a comprehensive range of programs, including concentrations in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies. Performance specializations include voice, as well as instrumental areas such as wind, brass, string, percussion, and piano.
Position Summary School of Music Course Catalog
- Studio Instructor for applied lessons needed.
- Additional courses may be assigned as needed to support students’ educational objectives, including Musicology, Music Education, and Music Theory.
The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:
- Applied Faculty Lessons
- Or other courses, as needed, to support the current students educational objectives.
Instructor Responsibility: Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
Conditional Appointment
Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association.
Compensation - Commensurate by qualifications and experience within salary range placement. The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree is $5,507-6,677 per a month when teaching full time (15 WTUs).
Anticipated Semester
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
Education: A Master's degree in with an emphasis in the area you are being considered or closely related field.
Experience: The candidate applying for private studio teaching must demonstrate a high level of performance proficiency and maintain an active career as an accomplished instrumentalist or vocalist, with proven expertise as both a soloist and ensemble performer. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively recruit and retain students. Must be able to maintain excellent relationships with both public and private educators within the relevant service area. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: A doctorate in the area you are being considered
- A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level
