Description
This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
The successful candidate will be offered a tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, which is in accordance with the Schedule A, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.
Situated on Treaty Six territory, the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured) position in Studies in Educational Leadership. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Studies in Educational Leadership Program and/or other areas of education across the Faculty.
- Engagement in a research program relevant to Leadership.
- Contribution to service within the Faculty, University and the broader community.
- Advising and supervising graduate students, if relevant.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have completed a Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a closely related field. Applicants who are close to completion of their doctoral degree will be considered, provided they supply an anticipated and confirmable degree-completion date.
- Applicants must:
- For the rank of Assistant Professor, demonstrate a strong potential to engage in scholarly activity and build an impactful research program.
- For the rank of Associate Professor, have a growing body of productive scholarly activity, that includes a record of research dissemination in a variety of forms, including peer-reviewed articles and presentations at national and international scholarly conferences.
- Have demonstrated ability to apply for (for the rank of Assistant Professor) or evidence of securing (for the rank of Associate Professor) competitive research funding (e.g., Tri-Council) in the area of Educational Leadership, as well as experience supervising graduate students (for the rank of Associate Professor).
- Have relevant teaching experience at the K-12 and post-secondary levels; priority will be given to applicants with K-12 leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- This individual will contribute to ongoing program evaluation and revision to help align our offerings with emerging needs in the field, and support the long-term vitality and continuity of the SEL program.
- This faculty member will bring valuable teaching expertise and provide much-needed capacity for course redevelopment, digital learning design, and program coordination.
- Sustain and grow rural and urban cohort delivery.
- K-12 leadership experience (e.g., as a principal, assistant principal, superintendent).
- Demonstration of knowledge of the Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard, Leadership Quality Standard and Alberta Teaching Quality Standard.
- Demonstrated potential for a program of scholarly research in Educational Leadership Studies, as evidenced by publications, conference presentations, or other scholarly activities. Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level, particularly in courses related to School Leadership.
- Demonstrated commitment to ensuring access, fostering community connections and increasing belonging; and demonstrated commitment to Indigenization in teaching, research, and/or service.
- Willingness to collaborate with schools, school divisions, and community partners.

- A sample of a published paper that is most significant and relevant to your research interests.

- Names and contact details of three references. Letters of reference will only be requested for candidates who are advancing to the next stage in the search process.
