Position description

Position Overview
The University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) invites applications for a 4-H Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics Academic Coordinator 2.
The Academic Coordinator leads the University of California 4H STEAM Initiative to develop, strengthen, and evaluate programmatic opportunities for California's young people in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and agriculture education. A key focus of this position is to adapt and design culturally responsive best and innovative practices, programs, activities, and curriculum to reach youth from communities that have not historically participated in the 4-H Program. This position connects with the UC ANR initiative to increase youth readiness to enter the workforce.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The 4-H STEAM Academic Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:
Statewide Program and Curriculum Design and Delivery
- Conduct a comprehensive and ongoing needs assessment to determine curriculum and program development needs.
- Lead statewide and participate in or lead regional and national STEAM curriculum and program development projects.
- Prepare culturally responsive educational materials and programs for county, area and/or statewide educational activities for multicultural youth audiences with special emphasis in adapting STEM activities, curriculum and programs that maintain youth from different backgrounds, and with varying interests.
- Design and distribute statewide educational materials for 4-H volunteers and families as needed to implement 4-H STEAM programming, including curricula and other educational materials.
- Coordinate and teach statewide workshops, tours, contests and training meetings related to STEAM to build skills in youth and volunteers.
- Support 4-H STEAM marketing, communication, and outreach activities. Identify and utilize methods to increase visibility and public relations for the 4-H STEAM Initiative in multicultural settings.
- Cooperate with subject matter specialists, Extension advisors and agencies to provide program support to the state and promote partnerships.
- Represent the UC ANR 4-H YDP on various statewide and/or national committees related to STEAM.
- Contribute to development of funding strategies and resource development for 4-H STEAM
- Provide supervision to the 4-H State Office educator or Community Education Specialist for STEAM and/or Animal Science.
- Work collaboratively with the 4-H Evaluation Academic Coordinator to evaluate STEAM-related activities and disseminate outputs, outcomes and impacts.

Location Headquarters: State 4-H Office, UC ANR Building, 2801 Second Street, Davis, California

Reporting Relationship: The STEAM Academic Coordinator reports to the Statewide 4-H Director. The incumbent will work cooperatively with all personnel in the statewide 4-H Program, other units in UC ANR, the broader UC system and partnering organizations. The position will also lead a 4-H STEAM Advisory Committee and participate in the Science Literacy Program Team, Positive Youth Development and 4-H Program Team and other workgroups.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a Master's degree is required, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in science, engineering, agriculture, animal science or any related STEAM discipline at the time of appointment.

Key Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a multicultural environment.
- Experience working collaboratively with a wide variety of multicultural stakeholders and developing productive partnerships.
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Experience or ability to demonstrate skills in program implementation and evaluation.
- Experience with program planning and budget management.
- Experience designing and implementing trainings for staff and/or volunteers.
- Experience effectively managing and resolving conflict.
- Knowledge of basic technologies, including word processing, e‐mail, Microsoft Office tools, the Internet, website content, etc.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Terminal Degree in a STEAM-related discipline
- Experience developing and delivering science, engineering, agriculture, animal science and/or technology education in out-of-school time programs to multicultural audiences.
- Familiarity with 4-H youth programing.
- Experience working with volunteers and providing leadership for volunteer groups.
- Cooperative Extension experience and/or experience working at a Land Grant University.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Experience working with state and national educational standards.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: The salary will be in the Academic Coordinator II series. Step 1 - $84,246 to Step 5 - $101,425 annually. The Step placement in this series is based on experience and professional qualifications.

The position is 50% soft funded and the successful candidate will be required to seek extramural funding to help support the position. Performance in this position will be evaluated annually. The merit cycle for this position will be evaluated every two (2) years. The position will be extended based on performance and availability of funding.
