UCL – Science and Engineering

The UCL EPSRC Landscape Award (UELA) is recruiting 50 fully funded, 4-year PhD studentships.

You can apply for any of the projects offered through the UELA project catalogue (over 100 projects). The project selection covers the range of the EPSRC themes which include topics such as Energy and Decarbonisation, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Healthcare Technologies, and many more topics within Engineering, Physical Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences.

What we offer

  • 50 fully funded 4-year studentships to start in October 2026
  • Up to 15 of the studentships may be awarded to International candidates
  • 4-years fees (with a UCL award to cover the additional fee for International students)
  • Stipend at the UELA enhanced rate (at least £23,466 in 2026/27 rises each year)
  • Research Training Support Grant of £5,000 to cover additional costs of training e.g. courses, project costs, conferences, travel
  • Part-time students (minimum 50% of full-time) will have their duration and stipend adjusted pro-rata
  • A catalogue of over 100 projects to apply for

How to Apply

UCL EPSRC Landscape Award (UELA) studentships are open to both Home and International students. You can apply to up to 5 projects from those on offer in the project catalogue.

You must apply through our online forms, following the instructions on the UCL EPSRC Landscape Award website.

The deadline for applications is 13:00 UK time on 5th January 2026.
