Job Description

Laurel Ridge Community College (Laurel Ridge) seeks applicants for a 9 month grant-funded faculty position to provide leadership and instruction for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program. Reporting to the Dean of Health Professions, the successful candidate will serve as an instructor of Emergency Medical Services, working with constituents from across the college and community to help shape the direction and future of the program. The faculty member will use multiple methods of instruction, assessment results and appropriate instructional technologies to engage students in learning and self-development activities geared toward student success, retention, and completion.

The ideal candidate will teach in traditional and non-traditional settings, including hybrid and/or online courses, which may be in a variety of formats and lengths and will facilitate student learning and development activities outside the classroom (e.g., clinical experiences, clubs, experiences for students in the community, etc.). This candidate will collaborate in the development of new course curriculum, degrees, certificates, and trainings as appropriate that align with the direction of the EMS program and the School of Health Professions. The candidate will work to strengthen and expand relationships and partnerships with K-12, higher education, industry, and community organizations in support of the college mission, vision, and values. We are looking for a faculty member with demonstrated commitment to excellence in service, innovation, student success, and integrity in the performance of job duties. May be assigned to teach at all Laurel Ridge locations as well as evening and/or weekend classes.

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for the position is $52,905.00 to $102,591.00 per year. The position is restricted with funding through May 16, 2026. The next renewal consideration date will be June 30, 2027. The position is a 9 month restricted faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. KSA's/Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree in emergency medical services or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
• Currently certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMTs) at the Paramedic level and possess or be eligible for Paramedic certification in Virginia.
• Demonstrated medical experience with verified field experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care as an EMS provider at the Paramedic level.
• Knowledge of the current National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards and evidenced-informed clinical practice.
• Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Additional Considerations

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Completion of 2 or more recertification cycles through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
• Experience with helping students develop critical thinking and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of methods of instruction, testing, and evaluation of students.
• Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.
• Experience creating community connections and fostering experiential learning opportunities.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor certifications.
• International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) provider or instructor.
• Demonstrated experience with compliance and accreditation requirements specific to the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VAOEMS) and the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Required Travel

Travel as per any required duties of the position, such as to sites/campuses and any training. Ability to cover assignments throughout the college service region as necessary for the job is required.
