AAP Digilab Equipment Technician
The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University (Cornell AAP) includes the departments of Architecture, Art, City and Regional Planning, the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate, jointly led by AAP and the SC Johnson College of Business, the multicollege Department of Design Tech, and the Cornell Mui Ho Center for Cities. The Opportunity
The Digilab Technician plays a vital role in maintaining and supporting a busy academic fabrication environment. This position ensures all fabrication equipment is functional, clean, and safe for use while providing technical support, safety training, and oversight for students, faculty, and staff. The technician supports both digital and analog fabrication processes-including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing, and robotics-and contributes to the overall learning environment through safety compliance, equipment care, and student supervision.
Our fabrication facilities serve as dynamic spaces for interdisciplinary exploration and innovation, supporting students and faculty in material research, sculpture, and model building. The team fosters creativity, collaboration, and safe practice across all fabrication areas.
The schedule for this role is an off shift, Monday - Friday
What We Need
- Trade, vocational, or technical school training (up to 2 years) or equivalent experience.
- Technical proficiency with CAD/CAM technologies including 3D modeling software, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing, and robotics.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify and address safety issues promptly.
- Strong customer service mindset and willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Understanding of organizational goals and the importance of maintaining alignment and balance among faculty, staff, and student priorities.
- Ability to cultivate and sustain inclusive, respectful working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

- Experience working in an academic or maker-space environment.
- Familiarity with mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of fabrication equipment.
- Experience with safety documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) offices.
- Background in supervising or mentoring student workers.
- Cross-training or interest in related fabrication areas (e.g., woodworking, metalworking, ceramics).
