Position Summary:
The Office of Undergraduate Research and Inquiry is seeking a dynamic, skilled administrator to support the operations of an office focused on delivering high quality undergraduate education. Primary responsibilities include support for daily operations, human resources, budget and finance, and event planning and implementation. This is a part-time position, totaling 24 hours per week.
Ideal Candidate Statement: The ideal candidate will have high-level administrative skills and strong communication and organizations skills to work effectively across two offices.
Workplace Requirements:
This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration. In-office work is required for office events. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Rate: $25/hour
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate degree or higher
- 3+ years of related experience
In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted.
Skills:
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft and Google software: word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs to complete work assignments
- Experience with enterprise systems for HR
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently under moderate supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Customer service oriented
- Strong organizational skills

Preferences:
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud
- Experience with cloud storage applications
Essential Functions:
- Provides support to faculty, administrators, students, and staff by implementing and administering day-to-day functions of the department, such as procurement, room reservations, scheduling meetings, and booking travel
- Coordinates three or more major departmental functions, including program/event administration, budget / finance, and human resources
- Interprets, implements and ensures compliance with policies and procedures, particularly regarding expenses, events, and HR, and recommends alternative solutions
- Reviews and monitors trends to provide recommendations to streamline functions in the department
- Monitors and tracks budgets and expenditures, reallocates funds, processes financial transactions, including labor distributions, disbursements, expense corrections, and transfers
- Represents the department to on- and off-campus stakeholders
- Assesses training needs and may develop associated training
- May coordinate the work of student employees
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions:
- Coordinates office maintenance and repairs as needed
