Academic Advising Specialist (HEOa) - Division of Humanities & the Arts (2 Positions)
POSITION DETAILS
Join our advising team of committed and passionate educators to support student success in an historic public college with a mission of access to excellence. The Academic Advising Specialist, which reports to the dean of Humanities and the Arts, will be involved in all aspects of advising approximately 2,000 students majoring in the 9 academic departments that comprise the Division of Humanities and Arts.
(Campus-specific Information and duties)
- Work with the dean of Humanities and the Arts, the deputy dean, and the lead undergraduate advisor in planning, scheduling, coordination and support of academic advising and registration activities for the academic departments and programs within the division
- Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
- Ensure students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
- Work with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
- Maintain and monitor divisional records on related matters
- Perform degree audits for degree candidates within the division
- Advise students on probation and handle re-entry applications
- Represent Division at admissions events and manage advising social media pages.
- Assist with other projects as needed
- Ensure the Division’s adherence to college policies and procedures, write reports, and maintain records
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A graduate degree is preferred. Bachelor’s and/or graduate degree in a discipline or disciplines within Humanities and Arts preferred.
- Experience in academic advising, student support services, or higher education administration preferred.
- Strong written, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills required.
- Experience working in a college or university setting and handling confidential information preferred.
