Academic Advisor, Academic & Support Services for Student-Athletes
The Academic Advisor provides academic support and guidance for student athletes, particularly select teams, to develop academic strategies for success, connects students with resources and opportunities, and serves as a source of ongoing support through the time working with the student-athlete. This individual would work intentionally and strategically with the Director and Assistant Director to best support student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Guidance and support:
- Be a primary academic advisor for students
- Work with student athletes individually to develop academic strategies for success;
- Work is being completed effectively; Ongoing review of grades;
- Meet/consult with students one-on-one, electronically, or via phone
- Present students options for effective support/resources
- Refer students to other campus resources
- Responding to alerts, messages, and requests from various systems/partners (e.g., from director / assistant director, Colleague Retention alert, academic updates from faculty, etc.)
Records and Data Management:
- Track students-athletes academic performance (academic progress in course work)
- Data review / data analysis of reports as needed to evaluate department's practices and support student-athletes in specific ways (promoting adding a minor, taking BU 299, etc.)
- Support for research projects as needed
- Oversight of assigned teams study hour requirements (automated process)
- Record information about student appointments
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality in accordance with established policies
Collaborate with Campus Partners:
- Participate in regular meetings with the Director & Assistant Director
- Work with campus partners on as needed basis (e.g. collaborating on programmatic initiatives
- Refer to director and assistant director when there are curriculum / degree track questions
- Coordinate with other support/service units as needed
- Participate in recruitment, enrollment, academic affairs, orientation, and other campus-wide events as needed

Job Requirements:
- Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- Experience working one-on-one with students
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience working directly with college readiness initiatives, advising and/or academic coaching
- Experience having difficult conversations with students
- Experience working with a variety of software systems
