Academic Advisor Contingent II - Health Sciences (PHIT - Grant Funded) (Open)
Job Description: Advises undergraduate students in the construction of schedules and core curriculum, major, and elective requirements. Assists in registration and drop/add, approves AP credit, and approves transfer credit to satisfy curriculum requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provide information to students to make informed decisions to achieve academic success.
- Advise students on academic policies, procedures, and graduation requirements at the University.
- Assist students with course selections and information about the services and resources available on campus.
- Advise students on elective courses, completion of major, concentration and sub-plan requirements.
- Advise students on academic career and personal issues, making appropriate referrals to the Career Development Center and Counseling Services.
- Ensure transfer credit is appropriately evaluated and approved in the department.
- Meet with students to review their degree in progress status and plan for final semesters.
- Encourage students to seek out-of-classroom opportunities in research and internships reflective of the major, to build their resume.
- Advise students of graduation application deadlines.
- Direct students to the appropriate faculty within the department for information on post-baccalaureate and graduate programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years of prior employment in higher education, teaching K-12 or in a position requiring strong customer service. Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must display a high level of enthusiasm coupled with a student-centered and student-friendly approach and mindset, ideal for working with college students.
Bachelor's degree required.
Must have computer experience with Microsoft Office Suite, virtual platforms and be familiar with student information systems.
Must clear a criminal background check prior to onboarding.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred.
