Academic Advisor/Counselor/Recruiter - Multiple Positions

Governors State University (GovState) invites qualified individuals to join our academic community by filling one of our Academic Advisor/Counselor/Recruiter positions for Enrollment Management. These positions are classified as an Academic Support Professional (ASP) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between academic professionals and GovState.
The Dual Degree Program Transfer Specialist, (Academic Advisor) will be housed in the Dual Degree Program Office, in Enrollment Management. The function of the Dual Degree Program (DDP) Transfer Specialist is to advise DDP students from the time they show interest in the program until the time they have completed their associate degree, are admitted to GovState (or other university), and are assigned to a program academic advisor. The DDP Transfer Specialist will also help grow the program by coordinating and hosting DDP recruiting activities and events. The DDP Transfer Specialist will interpret program, college/university and graduation requirements for both the community college and for GovState and will communicate them effectively to DDP students. The DDP Transfer Specialist is a professional who works independently and as a member of the DDP team. The DDP Transfer Specialist works a flexible schedule in order to accommodate student and program needs.
The primary role of the Graduate Admissions Counselor is to help increase the number of qualified applicants to the University and to enroll the most talented and diverse student body. The Graduate Admissions Counselor will execute targeted interpersonal, virtual and in-person engagement with prospective students, as defined by enrollment goals that are in alignment with the University’s Strategic Enrollment Plan. The Graduate Admissions Counselor will be responsible for counseling prospective graduate-level students, participating in both on-campus and virtual events, in-person and virtual pre-admissions appointments, and through the University’s web-based chat software.
The Recruiting Specialist performs a variety of complex professional and administrative tasks related to introducing and recruiting high school students to Governors State University. This position will work with the Associate Director of Recruitment to oversee the creation and deployment of key communication workflows for the recruitment and retention of undergraduate students. The enrollment communication/recruiting specialist will leverage list purchases and the CRM to execute communication plans designed to increase targeted inquiries and applications while increasing the conversion and yield rate for undergraduate students. The enrollment communication/recruiting specialist will also be responsible for building relationships with both high school and community college staff; managing an assigned recruitment territory and providing superior customer service at all times.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Demonstrated understanding of community college and higher education-related issues and culture
- Knowledge of admissions, recruitment and financial aid practices in higher education
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering persuasive presentations to prospective students and community organizations
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to maintain collaborative professional relationships with faculty and staff colleagues
- Ability to manage multiple projects and respond successfully as needed in a time sensitive environment
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office tools (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint) to create/produce letters, reports, flyers, and other documents
- Ability to learn and use new software programs and ERP systems effectively
- Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends for information sessions, overnight travel to universities, and orientation programs and other yield activities
- Experience working successfully with diverse populations, demonstrating sensitivity to and appreciation for the academic, ethnic, socio-economic, disability, age, and gender diversity of students and staff at GOVSTATE and partner colleges
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working collaboratively in a team environment with flexible hours
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and demonstrate good judgment
Desired Education and Experience
- Master’s degree
- Two to four years of experience in Admissions, marketing & communications or related field. Proven track record of successful student recruitment
- Experience counseling/advising students
- Experience developing community and business outreach programs
- Bilingual
- Experience working in an academic environment. Knowledge of Student Information Systems such as Colleague. Proficiency in using Customer Relation Manager (CRM) software. Slate preferred. Experience working with transfer programs and students Community college experience as a student and/or professional
