Academic Advisor - Educational Opportunity Program - University at Albany
The UAlbany EOP Counselor serves primarily as an advisor and advocate for an EOP undergraduate caseload-providing direct services. The counselor meets regularly with students to assess needs, offer support, and create action plans that may include one or more of the following: academic advising, financial literacy, personal development, and career exploration. The student and counselor collaborate on present and future goals to tailor a plan to achieve academic and personal goals to achieve an undergraduate degree.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and proactively engage in a holistic and in-depth counseling relationship with EOP students and provide academic, career, financial and personal guidance, both individually and in group settings.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive counseling records and assist the Director by providing data to complete required state and local reports.
- Participate in summer orientation program for freshman.
- Support transition, persistence, and retention initiatives.
- Facilitate workshops or small groups related to student development.
- Participate in EOP counselor meetings and campus advising meetings that pertain to issues pertinent to the success of EOP students, ensuring best practices that reflect changing policies for UAlbany, SUNY and nationally.
- Participate on various University committees that provide the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and staff.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to EOP Director.

- Demonstrated ability to perform all aforementioned duties and responsibilities while conducting one's self in a manner that is beneficial to the mission of EOP.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Experience supporting, engaging and advocating for a diverse population of students in a college or university setting.
- Experience working with Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) or similar student success initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
