Academic Advisor
Primary Purpose of the Organization

Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support to program participants and to, improve academic performance, and prepare students for post-secondary education. The Academic Advisor provides appropriate needs assessments and academic advisement; conducts academic support workshops and financial aid workshops; assists with educational college tours and field trips and conducts workshops for parents and recruits potential participants for the program in a fast-paced environment.
This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and
- Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Position requires the use of personal computers to complete duties; therefore, candidate must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Knowledge of the SCT Banner software. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; and must be able to manage a wide variety of records, files, and reports. The candidate must have personal and professional attributes to include punctuality, diligence, commitment, integrity, teamwork, and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- An earned master's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in the degree program to which they are assigned.
- Three to four years of experience as an Academic Advisor.
- Proficiency in the use of the SCT Banner software (Banner Self-service and Native Banner); knowledge of AccuTrack software; and knowledge of Hobson's EMT Retain software.
