Academic Advisor for Transfer Students and Peer Academic Support Specialist
About the Role:
Brandeis University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Academic Advisor for Transfer Students & Peer Academic Support Specialist to join our Academic Services team. This role provides a unique opportunity to support the success, engagement, and persistence of transfer students while contributing to the development and growth of our peer academic support programs. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative higher education professional passionate about guiding students through their academic journey and fostering inclusive learning communities.
The hiring range for this position is $66,900-$70,100
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Advising for Transfer Students (50%)
- Serve as the primary advisor for undergraduate transfer students, providing guidance on academic planning, major/minor selection, course registration, and university policies.
- Support students in navigating transfer credit evaluations, building academic and social connections, and achieving their personal, academic, and professional goals.
- Collaborate across campus with faculty, Student Financial Services, the Registrar’s Office, the Hiatt Career Center, Student Life, and other partners to ensure holistic support.
- Maintain accurate advising records and prepare student cases for the Committee on Academic Standing when needed.
Peer Academic Support (25%)
- Contribute to the hiring, training, and development of student leaders, including Roosevelt Fellows and BUGS tutors.
- Support initiatives in tutoring, academic mentoring, study skills development, and time and task management coaching.
- Promote peer-led academic programs and foster a culture of collaboration and student success.
Student Success Initiatives (20%)
- Partner with the Director of Student Success and Retention to support retention-focused programming and initiatives.
- Coordinate outreach and programming for students returning from leaves of absence and build community engagement opportunities.
Other Duties (5%)
- Support the broader mission of Academic Services, contributing to initiatives and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in higher education, ideally in an advising role focused on academic success and student retention.
- Experience with peer educator programs, tutoring initiatives, or academic mentoring preferred.
- Knowledge of student development theory, learning theory, and models of peer leadership.
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
