Position Information:
Entry-level professional with limited prior experience; learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity; works on assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. Employees at this level are expected to acquire the skills and knowledge to perform more advanced work following an agreed-upon time in position, through defined training and development planning.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean and Director, and the general direction of the Assistant Director(s) and higher-level Academic Advisors, use professional concepts and practices to support, develop, and advise a select student population, and support the advising team with processing, petitions, events, and general advising duties.
The incumbent has primary responsibility for supporting students and advising staff through appointments, drop-in advising, screening and answering emails and supporting email replies from the general undergrad inbox, answering questions from students, staff, faculty, or the public by phone, e-mail, or other medium processing forms and petitions in support or student success, schedule appointments, provide forms and instructions, make appropriate referrals, perform data entry, and maintain students' electronic files. Process and track student petitions for advisor review. Provide direct support to students and peer advisors as assigned. Assist the advising team with new student advising, orientation, academic workshops, events, outreach, and yield programs. This position is front-facing and customer-focused, which will require the incumbent to have or consistently seek out information from departments, staff, and faculty to better serve students with academic and career success and build community.
The full salary range for the Academic Advisor I position is $48,800 - $81,000 annually. We base salary offers on various considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
This full-time position is expected to be on-site, with no remote/hybrid work modality. The selected candidate will work at the School of Business building, University of California, Riverside Campus.

- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required

Minimum Requirements
- Basic knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
- Basic knowledge of UC and the department/school/college.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills (poise, active listening, tact, diplomacy, patience, discretion, assertiveness) to effectively interact with students, staff, faculty, and the general public in-person, by telephone, and via e-mail
- Demonstrated accuracy and orderly work habits in dealing with large volumes of paperwork. Ability to proof and correct own work with strict attention to detail. Working knowledge of standard correspondence formats.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to accurately communicate and explain detailed information.
- Strong skills in organizing work and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions. Ability to manage a heavy workload and handle multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Experience with multi-line telephones, scanners, and copy machines. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective paper and electronic filing systems.
- Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Knowledge of academic counseling techniques and proven ability to effectively listen, advise and counsel students on University and college program offerings, policies, procedures, and curricular requirements.
