Academic Advisor I
Sikeston Regional Campus
Full-Time
The Sikeston Regional Campus is seeking an academic advisor who will be responsible for providing academic advising services to current and prospective students at the Sikeston campus, reporting to the Director of Regional Campuses.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides academic advising for assigned case load of student advisees
- Develops and maintains relationships with area school counselors
- Assists students with career planning, making referrals to the Office of Career Services, as appropriate
- Teaches students the skills to self-navigate to degree completion utilizing campus information, student portal, Degree Works, University Bulletin, online resources, etc.
- Provides information and referrals to students needing services such as tutoring, testing, career counseling, personal counseling, financial aid, accessibility services, etc.
- Maintains systematic and frequent contact with advisees to communicate information
- Counsels and advises students concerning admissions, enrollment, and financial aid processes
- Maintains records of interactions with students and confidential student records
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of policies, processes, and best practices related to academic advising
- Provides support with scheduling classes offered at the Sikeston Campus
- Coordinates recruiting events with the Office of Admissions, Enrollment Day events for Sikeston students, and Open Houses
- Provides support and follow-up with students admitted with a restricted status
- Participates in Professional Advisor Team, Academic Advising Council meetings, and other relevant University meetings
- Provides administrative support at the Sikeston Regional Campus
- Handles confidential and sensitive materials
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university
- Knowledge of academic advising, counseling, or a closely related area through work experience or an educational setting
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as working as part of a team in a collaborative work environment
- Evidence of the ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
- Demonstrated ability to interpret degree program requirements
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend hours, consistent with student needs
