Advises for course selection, registration, academic planning,
career and educational goal setting, appropriate resources,
transitioning to the university, and retention issues. Document
student advising outcomes adequately to meet department and
institutional disclosure guidelines and aid in subsequent advising
activities.
Advises in both group and individual settings with current
students.
Perform appointment preparations including, but not limited to,
reviewing all accessible academic records for accuracy and
appropriateness of course work, communicating with academic
departments for major-specific transfer equivalencies, and
requesting the posting of approved transfer courses.
Process academic forms and follow-up on processed forms to
ensure that the student's record accurately represents the
student's chosen major, minor, concentration, and catalog
year.
Interprets university and college policies and procedures.
May be required to work beyond normal office hours including
evening and/or on weekends.
Student Success & Retention: 20%
Advocate for student needs associated with their educational
and academic program. Clearly communicate accurate and timely
information to students and interpret institutional, general
education, and major requirements per the university catalog.
Exhibit strong, active listening skills. Help students develop a
realistic self-perception and successful transition into the
university and help them to establish realistic goals for future
endeavors.
Monitors academic progress and implements intervention
strategies for students who receive academic alerts or who need
assistance in maintaining or improving their academic
standing.
Direct students to resources, programs, and services on campus
when it is appropriate to do so. Help students integrate
information so that they may make well-informed academic decisions.
Work to establish a partnership with students that will guide them
efficiently through their academic program.
Monitor students advising requirements: Notify students of
academic and faculty advising requirements when certain conditions
have or have not been met. Maintain accurate and complete student
file documentation. Prepare for, present, and advise at first-year
student orientations.
Support retention efforts include using the Salesforce
CRM.
Maintain a professional and cordial liaison with
administrators, faculty, staff, students, and other involved
constituents concerning advisees and program.

procedures, guidelines, and directives in timely manner and adhere
to confidentiality policies (FERPA).
May provide reports and data analysis of advising initiatives
and special populations.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
1-3 years of experience in academic advising, student affairs,
higher education, counseling, or a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student
population
Ability to interpret and apply academic policies, degree
requirements, and institutional guidelines
Proficiency with student information systems, advising
software, and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft
365)
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the
ability to manage a high-volume caseload
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA
regulations
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to make
sound, objective decisions
PreferredQualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student
Personnel, or a related field
2-5 years of progressive experience in academic advising or
student success roles
Experience working in a college or university setting,
particularly with developmental or intrusive advising models
Familiarity with degree audit systems, retention platforms, and
CRM tools (e.g., Banner, Slate, Navigate, Starfish, EAB)
Experience working with first-generation, transfer,
international, or academically at-risk students
Training or certification in academic coaching, student
development theory, or counseling techniques

This position operates in a professional office environment
within a college or university setting.
The role involves frequent interaction with students, faculty,
and staff, requiring regular communication via email, phone, video
conferencing, and in-person meetings.
The employee routinely uses standard office equipment,
including computers, phones, photocopiers, and digital advising
platforms.
The role may require occasional work outside of standard
business hours during peak advising periods, such as registration
or orientation.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a
computer.
Occasional lifting of files, boxes, or office supplies (up to
15 pounds).
Manual dexterity required for keyboarding and document
handling.
Environmental Conditions:
This role is typically performed in a climate-controlled office

Occasional travel between campus buildings or to external

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Standard work hours are Monday
through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Longer hours may be required
to meet deadlines, as necessary.
