Responsibilities:
The Academic Advisor supports student success by providing individualized academic advising to both undergraduate and, where applicable, graduate students. This role involves guiding students through degree planning, registration, and academic progress while helping them access campus resources and develop strategies to meet their academic and professional goals. Advisors work collaboratively within school-based advising teams and across departments to promote persistence, timely graduation, and holistic student development.
Position Duties:
- Provide one-on-one academic advising to undergraduate and/or graduate students on course selection, program requirements, and degree planning.
- Support students in understanding university policies, procedures, and academic standards.
- Monitor student academic progress and maintain accurate advising records in accordance with university protocols.
- Conduct proactive outreach to assigned students to support engagement, academic performance, and retention.
- Refer students to relevant campus resources such as tutoring, counseling, career services, financial aid, and student accounts.
- Participate in university-wide and school-specific advising initiatives, such as early alert campaigns and registration outreach.
- Support students on academic probation or experiencing academic difficulty by developing success plans and connecting them to appropriate supports.
- Collaborate with faculty and program leadership to align advising with curricular requirements and progression expectations.
- Attend and participate in professional development, trainings, and advisor team meetings.
- Contribute to onboarding activities such as orientation, registration sessions, and other transition programs.
- Participate in assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement of advising practices.
- Support university initiatives and serve on committees as assigned, helping to shape advising practices and enhance student support.
- Participate in recruitment and conversion events in fall and spring semesters; some weekend work is required to support these university-wide events.
- Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field required.
- At least one year of experience in academic advising, student support, or higher education administration preferred.
- Experience advising graduate students a plus, but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student population with care, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed. Position may require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Base pay is $64,350 / Year.
