Academic Advisor - NYSOP
Position Details
The New York State Opportunity Promise (NYSOP) Advisor will serve as an advisor for students including, but not limited to adult learners participating in the NYSOP initiative-designed to expand access to degree programs for adult learners aged 25-55, with some college experience but no degree. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of the Student Success Coaching Unit (SSCU) and/or their designee. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Deliver comprehensive advisement support services to students including, but not limited to those in the NYSOP program.
- Provide outreach to students including those 25-55 years old as per the NYSOP and CUNY criteria.
- Link NYSOP students to campus resources in a coordinated manner to ensure high retention and graduation rates.
- Conduct workshops and group advisement to support students.
- Provide support services and advise students of transfer and employment opportunities.
- Develop personal, collaborative relationship with assigned students and provide individualized guidance and ongoing feedback.
- Provide critical operational and administrative support to help realize the goals of the NYSOP state effort.
- Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs; Monitor student progress toward established goals; Track student use of academic support services.
- Conduct regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
- Utilize student success platforms such as Navigate, DegreeWorks, and TRex to support students and to effectively advise them of transfer and employment opportunities.
- Proactively engage students in advising process throughout appointment campaigns, group advising and other related communications.
- Additional duties as assigned including administrative duties and overall support of the SSCU Unit.
- Essential duties require in-person work.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required. Preferred Qualifications: Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing adult learners as well as students from diverse urban backgrounds. Experience advising and providing support services to students in higher education. Availability to work evenings and weeks when needed. Demonstrated skills working independently and as part of a team within a department and with faculty and other administrators. Strong organization and interpersonal skills. Strong command in student success platforms such as Navigate, DegreeWorks, Zoom, CUNYFirst, and TRex to support students.

Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures. Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process. Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services. Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits. Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses. May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups. Performs related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits
$59,444 - $68,668; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
