Academic Associate, String Project Mentor - School of Music, Dance, and Theatre
The School of Music, Dance and Theatre at Arizona State University seeks a part-time 9-month academic year, non-benefits eligible academic associate to begin in fall 2025 in support of our String Project Program. This position will be located on the Tempe campus, as well as includes remote work.
Principal duties for the Academic Associate include meeting weekly with undergraduate teachers before class to plan instruction, observing undergraduate teachers (2 teachers for each class), meeting with teachers after class to answer questions and offer suggestions. Responsible for selecting music for each class level from the String Project music library. Additionally, responsible for leading a 10:15am class on Saturdays, and for organizing and participating in one concert program per semester.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or PK-12 Education. Demonstrated excellence in teaching in a public-school class setting. Knowledge of playing technique for and appropriate repertoire for violin/viola/cello/double bass. Ability to articulate choice of teaching practices and the reasons for those choices. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; computer and media/technology skills. Availability 10 Saturdays per semester, 8am-12:30pm.
Desired Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years teaching beginning and intermediate string instruments. Previous experience mentoring beginning teachers. Familiarity with ASU’s String Project Program. Computer and media/technology skills.
