Academic Chair/Division Head/Chief for the Division of Vascular Surgery
Position Profile: The Department of Surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is seeking an academic Chair/Division Head/Chief for the Division of Vascular Surgery for a five-year appointment, renewable once. This is a full-time, limited-term, clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, or a continuing appointment at Associate Professor or Full Professor, based on experience. Key attributes include excellence in clinical, education, and research domains; visionary thinking; strong leadership and communication skills; commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization; and strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will oversee Divisional activities in teaching, research, and clinical care; foster educational programs; support research; and manage faculty recruitment and mentorship.
Division Profile: The Division of Vascular Surgery at Victoria Hospital provides specialized care to Southwestern Ontario, with strong programs in clinical care, education, and research. It includes six faculty members and six residents, conducting over 800 procedures annually, including aortic aneurysm repairs. It collaborates with interventional radiology, vascular medicine, and cardiac surgery for comprehensive patient care.
Academic and Clinical Expectations: The role requires leadership skills, interaction with multidisciplinary teams, oversight of patient evaluation, and participation in training and research committees. Candidates must be recognized experts with a strong publication record and guide Divisional initiatives.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent, have completed accredited vascular surgery training and fellowship, demonstrate excellence in clinical, education, and research, hold specialty certification in Vascular Surgery, and be eligible for licensure in Ontario.
Compensation Details: Compensation is based on qualifications and experience, including fee-for-service, Alternative Funding Plan, academic salary, and other sources.
