Purdue University Northwest is seeking an Academic Coordinator in the TRIO Student Support Services department. The Academic Coordinator will provide individualized academic and educational services, coordinate the program's tutoring, and monitor the academic progress for students of TRIO Student Support Services. The Academic Coordinator establishes and maintains faculty and staff collaborations that lead to student program recruitment. The Academic Coordinator contributes to the completion of special projects and events and may serve on a variety of committees. The Academic Coordinator will support the mission of the grant, which focuses on student persistence, good academic standing, and getting students to graduate. This position does have the opportunity for a flexible work schedule but does require a strong on-campus presence.
TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program that supports first-generation, income-eligible college students on their journey to earning a bachelor's degree at Purdue University Northwest. Current funding is secured through 8/31/2030.
Pay: $50,000 - $54,500
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional evening or weekend work a couple of times per semester; will flex work schedule to accommodate
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide academic coaching
- Provide financial literacy and financial aid assistance
- Provide career-readiness coaching such as resume building, interview preparation, and developing a network
- Develop college success skills within students
- Provide graduate admission advising
- Monitor academic progress and utilize learning and strengths assessments to develop individual success plans
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided via Student Access and participant files
- Develop programming/workshops that align with meeting program’s grant objectives
- Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of all participants’ academic progress via Progress Reporting, Cognos, or any other relevant method
- Recommend and implement data-informed practices for strengthening the retention, persistence, and graduation of students
- Collaborate with key academic and support services
- Assist the Director in the evaluation and documentation of program components, including the Annual Performance Report
- Promote the tutoring program among participants
- Train students how to utilize the tutoring program
- Recruit tutors for in-person tutoring as needed
- Develops outreach to TRIO eligible participants
- Coordinates enrollment of eligible students into the program
- Establishes and maintains faculty and staff collaborations that lead to student program recruitment
- Schedule and conduct classroom presentations to engage TRIO eligible students
- Represents TRIO at university (NSO, Preview PNW, Welcome Week) and community tabling/booth events as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in professional growth activities to remain informed with current tutoring, retention and success best practices, theories, and technologies

Education
Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or other human services field
Experience
Minimum two years’ experience. Experience working with individuals who are low-income, first-generation college, or students with disabilities is preferred.

- Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in post-secondary education and knowledge of issues affecting their college retention and success.
- Ability to coach and mentor students successfully.
- Experience with data collection, management, and report generation.
- Knowledge of learning assessments and implementation to promote academic and career success.
- Ability to coordinate program initiatives on evidence-based practices.
- Ability to display strong attention to detail and excellent organization skills.
- High initiative and able to collaborate effectively within the department and with campus stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google, Outlook, and video conferencing software.
- Some evening and weekend work may be required, including overnight trips with students ~3x per year.
