Academic Dean of Manufacturing
Job Description
To provide visionary academic leadership and direction for portions of academic affairs of Hennepin Technical College, including all the college sites in the area of curriculum, hiring, and training of new staff. As an administrator, this person supports and advances a campus culture of equity and inclusion within the division as well as throughout the college community. Campus administrative coverage for day, evening, and weekends is a basic component with the ability to properly handle emergency situations and student concerns. Participation on college-wide committees and task forces is required as well as providing leadership with college-wide initiatives. The position holder is responsible for program development and revision at the college in consultation with the vice president of academic and student affairs, faculty, and other division deans. In addition, this position requires interaction with external accrediting bodies, collaborative work with other programs, community stakeholders, and educational disciplines that support student learning.
This person will work internally with the vice president of academic and student affairs, academic and student affairs deans, support staff, liberal arts faculty, technical program faculty, and department team leaders (department chairs and coordinators).
This person will supervise Faculty and staff with technical programs, primarily in manufacturing. This person will be a part of the administrative team that will have responsibility for the day-to-day operation of programs on both campuses, with specific emphasis on the instructional aspects.
Salary Range
$93,713-$149,940
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience and/or 3 years of full-time higher education teaching experience with leadership components such as Division Chair, Committee Chair, etc. Demonstrated understanding of the mission of technical two-year colleges. Evidence of a strong and clear commitment to diversity among both students and staff. Excellent presentation skills and interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated success in partnership development. Demonstrated success in promoting the values of shared governance and participative management. Experience in developing and administering budgets. Experience in administering and managing equipment and supply budgets. Transferable skills working with industry partners in manufacturing areas.
Preferred Qualification
Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution. Experience in vocational education and workforce development. College level teaching experience, preferably at two-year technical colleges. Experience working with technical education programs. Five years’ experience in supervision and administration, preferably in a higher education institution with collective bargaining units. Experience in program and/or higher learning institutional accreditation. Experience in planning and participating in joint projects with business or educational organizations including K12 districts, four-year universities and industry. Experience with distance learning and the use of technology in the classroom. Demonstrated success in obtaining and managing grants.
Other Requirements
Hennepin Technical College is currently unable to sponsor work visas or green card applications due to regulatory complexity, budget constraints, and alignment with our current hiring strategy. Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment. Work Shift (Hours / Days of work): Varied, typically Monday-Friday. Telework (Yes/No): Required to be on campus 4 days per week.
