Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) is a recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) as a foreign campus in Japan. We offer Associate of Arts degrees as well as Bachelor’s degrees on our Japan campus which hosts students and faculty from more than 40+ different countries. As a campus of an American university in Japan, LUJ teaches in English and proudly offers the same curriculum (on selected majors) as our home campus in Wisconsin.
LUJ is currently seeking candidates for part-time faculty positions (open rank) in various subject areas. The area of specialization is open, but candidates must be able to teach introductory courses as well as more advanced courses to begin September 2025.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who have a passion for education and are willing to help our students achieve their educational objectives.
Work content and job description
- Serves as the lead academic officer for LUJ, which includes both associate and bachelor's degree programs and cooperative education learning experiences.
- Supervises and recruits faculty and supports course development in all areas of the LUJ curriculum.
- Promotes the successful integration of LUJ policies and curriculum and assesses student outcomes in all academic offerings.
- Supervises LUJ academic affairs, including the registrar's office, academic support services, and the library.
- Supports student recruitment, advising, and retention efforts for LUJ.
- Develops, expands, and promotes adult learning courses at LUJ through the Open College and corporate training programs.
- Convenes or participates in committees, planning teams, and task forces as assigned.
- Guides program development, review, curricular updates, and scheduling for LUJ academic offerings.
- Supports professional development opportunities for faculty and academic staff.
- Recommends personnel actions to upper management, including appointments and promotions.
- Assists in the annual development, coordination, and execution of the LUJ budget.
- Collaborates with the LUJM Board to develop corporate partnerships, identify and secure grants and gifts, and promote alumni and donor relations.
- Participates in Higher Learning Commission accreditation reporting and reviews.
- Enhances the visibility, enrollment, and resources of LUJ.
- Works with the Board of Trustees to keep them informed of LUJ developments.
- Represents LUJ at various meetings, organizations, and conferences as well as in interactions with the U.S. Embassy and MEXT.
- Advises students or teaches occasional courses as schedules permit.

Lakeland University seeks a dynamic and experienced leader as its next Academic Dean of Lakeland University Japan (LUJ) starting April 1, 2023. The successful candidate will possess the vision and ability to lead faculty and academic staff in delivering high-quality academic programs and educational experiences to students in Tokyo. The dean will work closely with local and international partners to promote LUJ and expand its offerings, including a distinctive cooperative education curriculum. The Academic Dean will update and assess the curriculum; oversee academic planning and support, scheduling, and policy implementation; and represent LUJ in external discussions with industry professionals, the U.S. Embassy, and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).
The Academic Dean reports to the Vice President for LUJ in Japan and to Vice President for Academic Affairs in Wisconsin, and holds faculty status.

Supplementary explanation of compensation
The job position is Academic Dean, a full-time position with salary in accordance with the rules and regulations of the school. Employees' pension, health insurance, workers' accident compensation insurance, and unemployment insurance are provided; ask at interview for details. Transportation allowance for public transportation is provided.
Vacations stipulated by the university's regulations, summer vacation, year-end and New Year's vacation, etc.
