Academic Laboratory Manager

The Academic Laboratory Manager oversees the management and operation of the college’s laboratories, including the Multidisciplinary Classroom (MDC), the Thing Lab, and the Pathology Lab, within the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). This role includes supervising laboratory staff and student workers, as well as supporting the teaching laboratories integral to the CVM curriculum. The Academic Laboratory Manager ensures the labs are equipped, safe, and fully operational to meet the needs of faculty and students. This position also includes responsibilities related to the safe transport of anatomical specimens for instructional use, including the WAVE program.

This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, in writing and oral form, both in person and by alternate electronic means (e.g., email, videoconference, text, phone).
  • Ability to effectively interact with Administration, Faculty, staff, students and outside contacts.
  • Ability to work with and around embalmed/non-embalmed animal cadavers and parts.
  • Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments with extensive follow-up and maintain confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills necessary in prioritizing workload and assuring efficiency in operation.
  • Proficiency with common computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, and virtual communication).
  • Ability to work without direct supervision, and skills to manage other employees effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Any combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in an academic laboratory setting.
  • Other requirements: Must possess a valid California Driver’s License as the position requires travel to off-site locations as part of regular job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Completion of a degree from RVT school
