Job Overview
The Academic Mentor supports student-athletes in developing essential academic skills, including organization, time management, and goal setting. Through structured, one-on-one mentoring sessions, Academic Mentors guide students in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities while promoting accountability, independence, and overall academic success. This role is a school year position with performance evaluations at the end of each semester to continue employment. We do NOT hire current student-athletes
Job Duties
- Mentoring Sessions and Student Support
- Conduct scheduled one-on-one mentoring sessions with student-athletes
- Guide students in developing organization systems (task sheets, planners, digital calendars)
- Assist in building time management, goal setting, and problem-solving skills
- Help students break down assignments and lead progress checks to track academic success
- Encourage accountability, proactive planning, and independent learning habits
- Reporting
- Complete session reports after each meeting in Teamworks Academics
- Document assignments, student progress, engagement, and any concerns in reports
- Communicate attendance issues or student challenges with SAAS supervisor
- Trainings and Development
- Attend required pre-semester mentor training
- Participate in scheduled one-on-one meetings with the supervisor throughout the semester
- Professionalism and Program Expectations
- Maintain punctuality and consistent attendance for all scheduled sessions
- Uphold confidentiality and professional boundaries
Qualifications
Required: Must be an active CCU Student. Minimum of a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Junior level or higher. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Ability to work consistently and reliably with scheduled commitments. Ability to maintain academic & professional integrity and confidentiality
Preferred: Experience working with peers in tutoring, mentoring, or leadership roles. Interest in education, student development, or academic support services
