Position Profile
The Department of Paediatrics, Children's Hospital, London Health Science Centre, and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University is seeking an Academic Neonatologist to join our established Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine as a full-time faculty member.
Academic and/or Clinical Expectations
We invite applications from outstanding clinicians, educators and researchers with a strong record of current multi-disciplinary collaboration and healthcare leadership. The successful candidate will provide clinical service in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), a 51-bed tertiary level, mixed medical and surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The candidate will have demonstrated healthcare leadership experience equivalent to the Assistant/Deputy Medical Director level or above. They will have evidence of successful development and operationalization of unit based policies and quality improvement initiatives. They will be able to assume the role of Medical Director of the NICU after a period of orientation and help develop academic activities within the division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, including: clinical, educational, research and leadership initiatives. The successful candidate will actively contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate education and research programs of the Division of Neonatal Perinatal Medicine and the Department of Paediatrics. They will also serve as a role model for our undergraduate medical students, paediatric residents and neonatal-perinatal subspecialty fellow/residents. The successful candidate may be appointed as a Scientist or Associate Scientist at the Children's Health Research Institute.
Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required
Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario. Subspecialty certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required. The preferred candidate will be an academic neonatologist with clinical and leadership experience in a level 3 medical/surgical NICU. They will have demonstrated leadership in policy and program development, and patient quality and safety initiatives at the unit level. Experience utilizing unit based metrics for optimizing outcomes and assisting healthcare providers navigating the transition to an electronic medical record are considered an asset. Additional priorities for this leadership role in our NICU include: neonatal transport leadership, leading family centered care practices, assessment and optimization of oral feeding transition and safe discharge practices.
Compensation Details
Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of the following sources: Alternate Funding Plan (AFP) and academic salary.

Department
The Department of Paediatrics provides comprehensive acute care, ambulatory and in-patient services for children to a population of 2 million in southwestern and northwestern Ontario. Children with a full range of care issues are managed in our Paediatric Emergency Department, Paediatric Critical Care Unit, High Dependency/Transition unit, Neonatology Unit and in-patient Clinical Teaching Units. The Department has a strong research environment and is partnered with the Children's Health Institute (CHRI Website) with broad programs studying children ranging in age from pre-term neonates to adolescents. The Department is very active in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
Division
The NICU at Children's Hospital, LHSC is a 51-bed mixed medical/surgical intensive care unit. We support one of the busiest tertiary level high risk birthing centres in Canada, with over 6,500 births per year and approximately 1,200 NICU admissions annually.
The Divisional members work closely in clinical, teaching and research with members of the Departments of Paediatrics (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/paediatrics/) and Obstetrics & Gynaecology (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/obsgyn/).
Collaborative research is also done with scientists at the Children's Health Research Institute (CHRI) (www.chri.org) and with scientists from the Robarts Research Institute and the London Health Sciences Research Institute (LHSCRI).
The High Risk Obstetric Unit, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Children's Hospital, at LHSC, are state-of-the art programs and facilities (http://www.lhsc.on.ca/nicu). They are tertiary care centres for high risk maternal, fetal and newborn care for Southwest Ontario and serve a population of over 1.8 million with an annual birth rate of 20,000.
