About the Position

Yuelu Academy, a renowned millennium-old academic institution with a rich legacy in the humanities and officially designated as the School of History and Philosophy of Hunan University, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track academic position in History. This role is open to outstanding scholars across all career stages, from early-career researchers to established academics, with the rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) determined by the candidate’s academic background and experience. Research Focus

The position welcomes scholars specializing in:

• Chinese History: Ancient Chinese History, Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, History of Specialized Fields, Study of Historical Documents, Paleography
• World History: Ancient and Medieval World History, Modern and Contemporary World History, Global History
• History of Material Culture and Archaeology: Prehistoric Archaeology, Archaeology of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, Archaeology of the Sui, Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties, Study of Ancient Architecture, Study of Ancient Bronzes/Jades/Ceramics, Protection of Material Cultural Heritage

Core Qualifications

• Hold a doctoral degree from a prestigious university or research institution in a relevant field.
• Fluent in either Mandarin or English, with the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct academic exchanges in the proficient language. Proficiency in both languages is a plus.
• Demonstrated academic excellence appropriate to career stage:
  • Early-career candidates: Exceptional research potential, a strong academic foundation in the chosen field, and a clear vision for future research.
  • Mid-career and senior candidates: A distinguished publication record in top-tier journals/monographs, proven teaching effectiveness, leadership in research projects , and contributions to the academic community.
• Familiarity with digital humanities methodologies is a valuable asset.
