Academic Specialist in the Academic Enrichment Program (Open Rank)

The Academic Enrichment Program at NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking to appoint a dedicated Academic Specialist to enhance the academic experience of our students. This role involves providing individualized and group support to students, assisting with the development and implementation of academic programs, and managing various administrative tasks related to student services. A key role of the Academic Specialist is to support students in the Academic Enrichment Program (AEP), particularly in areas of critical reading and thinking, writing, academic presentation skills, and quantitative reasoning. The ideal candidate will be proactive, student-focused, and skilled in providing academic and administrative support. The position requires a willingness to cooperate and plan, alongside faculty, to meet individual student needs as well as to help the students meet program outcomes, support the program and course curriculum, and assist the Senior Director in reaching targeted 4-year graduation rates. The candidate will work with the Senior Director on Administrative tasks as well as data collection and analysis of the program's effectiveness.
The Academic Enrichment program supports 90-100 first-year students annually and continues to advise, mentor, and track the progress of AEP students in cohorts from their second year through their senior year. The program has a current team of two FTE faculty, including the Senior Director, one adjunct faculty member, and 2 Writing Instructors. The position is designed to support Emirati students who will impact the larger social structure and economic sectors of the UAE.

Qualifications: Master’s degree with consistently demonstrated excellence and experience in higher education teaching and liberal arts education. TESOL, Teaching Certification, Higher Education Experience.
Required Experience: Experience in teaching and academic support in the Humanities or Social Sciences. Experience working with a diverse student body and commitment to diversity and inclusion. Experience and proficiency in supporting students in academic coursework and university transitions. Experience and proficiency in the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects and programs. Excellent presentation, written, and oral communication skills in English. Experience in planning and assessment. Experience in data collection and analysis.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and experience in equity and inclusion, cultural competence, and conflict management. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, administrators, and external partners and stakeholders. Ability to appreciate and incorporate diverse learning styles, educational backgrounds, and communication styles. Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels. Excellent listening skills to accurately understand others and provide effective feedback. Good judgment, discretion, independence, and initiative. A capacity to work collegially and collaboratively.
Preferred Experience: A strategic thinker who actively seeks to align processes and programs with institutional values and context. Ability to work collaboratively with leadership and colleagues. Cultural humility and the ability to engage in the process of self-reflection and self-critique to learn about others and examine their own beliefs and cultural identities.
